Seven people were injured after gunfire erupted in East Baltimore on Wednesday night, September 16, according to police. The shooting brought a significant law-enforcement response to the area near the Douglass Homes community as investigators began working to determine what happened.
Police were called shortly after 9 p.m. to the 1400 block of East Fayette Street near North Caroline Street after reports of gunfire. Officers arriving at the scene found several people suffering from gunshot wounds.
Child Among Those Injured
A young child was among the seven victims. Updated local reporting identifies the child as a 4-year-old girl, while some earlier reports initially described the youngest victim differently.
The child was seriously injured and was transported for medical treatment. The other victims were also taken to area hospitals, with police initially describing their injuries as non-life-threatening.
