Jared Young was taken to a hospital after a frightening collision with New York Mets teammate Nolan McLean during the team’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies.

The incident happened at first base when Phillies outfielder Justin Crawford hit a slow ground ball. McLean moved toward the base to make the play while Young was also in position, and the two Mets players collided.

McLean’s knee struck Young in the head, leaving the first baseman on the ground as medical personnel rushed onto the field. Young was eventually placed on a stretcher and taken away for further medical evaluation.

There was encouraging news following the collision. The Mets said Young had feeling in his extremities, and he gave a thumbs-up gesture as he was being taken from the field.

Young later underwent a CT scan that came back negative. Mets manager Andy Green said Young was experiencing concussion symptoms but had full use of his extremities.

The collision was especially concerning because it occurred during a routine defensive play that quickly turned into a serious injury situation.

McLean also appeared shaken by what happened and was visibly affected by the collision. He was later replaced in the game.

Young, 31, has been an important contributor for the Mets this season. Before the injury, he was batting .266 with nine home runs and 39 RBIs in 103 games.

The Mets are expected to provide additional updates as Young continues his recovery and evaluation following the collision.
